MacXM privacy information
The MacXM web site is hosted at SourceForge. They collect statistical information about visitors to project sites. You can go read their privacy statement if you wish. The MacXM project also collects some statistical information about site visitors. This information is never shared with anyone outside the project.
There are some internet-connected features of the MacXM software. Using some or all of them may have privacy implications for you, depending on how paranoid you are. All of them are optional. If you don't want to part with any information, just don't use them. The features in question are:
- Checking for updates. In order to see if an updated version is available, the MacXM web site is queried for the current released version. Since the web site is hosted on SourceForge, they will collect statistical information (which includes a unique identifier based on your radio ID) about that access. Also, the MacXM project reserves the right to use this information in agregate form as a crude census.
- Song rating submissions. When you rate a song, the following information is collected: The date and time, your IP address, the song artist and title, the currently tuned channel and the name, a unique identifier based on your radio ID, and version of software you used to rate the song (since you're reading this, it's probably MacXM). This information may be shared with selected 3rd parties and/or publicly displayed in agregate form.
